Just how poor are America's poor?

I interviewed prominent researcher Dr. Robert Rector of the Heritage Foundation today regarding new Census Bureau findings on poverty in America. Rector contends that while America's "poor" are not affluent, they're not deprived in the sense political activists and the press would like people to believe. He notes that according to the government's own data that measures living standards, the typical poor person has cable or satellite television, a microwave, air conditioning, a DVD player, and two color televisions. Not to mention, close to 45% of them own their own home, which typically is a 3-bedroom residence with one-and-a half bathrooms. Look for the full story soon on http://www.onenewsnow.com/ I'll be posting the entire interview in my Reporter's Notebook.
